* Actually, it probably does.

utf-8 t-shirt

I can’t get this unbelievably esoteric t-shirt idea out of my head, so I thought I might as well post it here. If anyone actually finds this funny, please check your dosage let me know and I’ll stick it up on CafePress.

UPDATE: Now available on Cafepress along with other designs.

    (I never thought I’d see the day)

    - Is it something to do with the bits for the â™Ұ when interpreted as ascii or something like that? I’m curious now, damn you!

    It is, only to my chagrin I realize i picked a bad font for the intitial upload [Georgia renders the Y-dash character differently from most fonts] have now uploaded fixed version.

    The key is: When the unicode character ♥ is represented using the UTF-8 encoding scheme, it is defined by 3 bytes, E2 99 A5, which when interpreted as default Windows ANSI shows up as ♥

  5. mark says:

    NB: you can see this for yourself by forcing this page to the “Western” character set using your browser’s View->Character Encoding menu. The following 2 unicode characters will show up as triple junk characters:

    ♥ ☺

    Such encoding errors are common when UTF-8 text is pasted/imported into other text.

    Also, your comment interface sucks :-)

    But you were being clever— Just not fast enough :)  I’m just amazed that someone actually happened across both designs! (here’s the actual t-shirt I created that no one has bought yet)

    I could fix your broken comment, but instead I’ll just wonder aloud how my interface caused you to post accidentally…?

  11. Tom says:

    I bounced on tab by accident whilst typing, and my next space character submitted the comment. Not _completely_ blamable on the interface, of course, but a ‘preview’ button would have saved me…

    Oh, also,  the ‘private’ checkbox is after the ’submit’ button in the tab ordering.
