Aren’t webcams great!

Wow, it’s just like we’re in the same room!
The only webcam I’ve ever heard anyone recommend is Apple’s iSight, and annoyingly it’s only available with FireWire connection. Grrrrr…
audio
BTW For some reason the embedded player was screwing this up when the sample rate was 24KHz, so I had to resample to 22.05, which means it sounds a little rougher than it needs to.

So was that Sean doing the auditory equivalent of ‘noddies’ in the background?

Wow… The iSight was my first experience with a webcam, I never realised how crappy the rest of ‘em were ;)

jo— that was me doing the noddies… I figured if I’m going to sit around talking to myself I might as well record it :)
Tim— I should point out that I have a penchant for working in low light (don’t like bright light or loud noise) so it is pretty tough for a CMOS censor to cope with. Still I expected there might have been some sort of improvement in the last ten years.

did you phase shift your voice slightly? you made me laugh you funny man.
I would have participated with my own unbelieveably crap $29 web cam that crashes by free-beta-preview video version of skype at least 20 times before it stabiliz(s)es and output’s (from my relatively hacked together quicktime component driver) non-apple sanctioned crap video noise from a small player chinese video chip manufacturer. Oh, and i’m running Mac OS X and iSights are too expensive - but at least i know why;-)

I change speed/pitch slightly to reduce the overall length and to differentiate the 2 voices slightly.
Yes, I think the iSight is basically a decent video camera minus the recording part.

Take it back and swap it for anything with a CCD - CMOS was/is horrible for imaging [except in the case of very high end thingies]
