Morgan Spurlock is a dick
Friday, February 22nd, 2008Like many people I watched the documentary film Super Size Me and was amazed at the effect that Spurlock’s 30-day McDonalds only diet had on him. It nearly killed him! What a dude for performing such an experiment! Stick it to the man! etc…
About a year later I turned on my television to see him hosting this vile show called I Bet You Will, where he hangs around college campuses and offers idiot students 20 bucks to eat their own vomit or perform other such stupid gross-out activities. I couldn’t reconcile how this dude with principles could involve himself in such execrable nonsense.
Until now. Brian Dunning of Skeptoid talks about follow up studies that did not demonstrate anything like the effect that Spurlock claimed in the movie, and busts a few myths about evil fast food vs regular normal food. It’s not that fast-food is particularly good for you; merely that if you can resist the urge to force-feed yourself then it’s really not [necessarily] so bad for you either.

Interesting post, I watched Super Size Me as well and always thought it was slightly bullshit. Why on earth anyone would eat every meal at one of these places is beyond me anyway. Quite frankly if you do, then it is an example of Darwin getting rid of a complete idiot. I also cannot stand anyone blaming an establishment for their stupidity. McDonalds made me fat, McDonalds hot coffee burned me and the list goes on and on. No, McDonalds did not make you fat, your choices did and your fat fingers caused you to drop your hot coffee on your lap.
I occasionally eat at a fast food restaurant and sometimes the food is okay. The key to anything is moderation. The Super Size Me documentary smelled of the coffee causes birth defects study. Give a mouse the equivalent caffeine of 10,000 cups of coffee in one day and sure it is going to cause problems. But lets ignore the fact that if you even tried to drink that much water it would actually kill you.

“It’s always popular to be anticorporate; it’s always popular to bash fast foods, and audiences are generally well predisposed to welcome any information that supports these concepts.”
So that’s why there are no corporations and no fast food chains?
Bloody lefty anti corporate anti-fast food people - they’re coming over here, eating our corporations and CEOing our children!

Oooh this makes me feel validated! I actually Googled “Morgan Spurlock is a dick” and this was the first result. I agree, btw. He IS a dick. And McDonald’s burgers are yummy. This comment would be a lot more verbose if I weren’t half drunk, about to go out, and probably end the evening with…a burger.
